Kiln carving is a simple firing process that achieves a bas relief, textured, or sculpted look in glass.Our kiln carving workshop was one of the activities underway at the Guild today. Our participants learnt techniques to create “carved” glass, and how to create and cut patterns from ceramic fibre paper; plus the types of glass to use; and kiln firing processes involved. Some snippets of loading and prepping a glaze firing. The next step is to slowly ramp the kiln up, to over 2100* F. A process which can take over 9 hours.
