How can I figure out what mystery wall switches might do?
There are at least four wall switches in my house (some on the ground floor, some upstairs) that seem to serve no discernible function. I have asked the previous owners of the house and the owners before that, but none of them know the function of these switches.

My guess is that there was a plan for an overhead light or fan, and some miscommunication between electrician, drywall, and general contractor ended up with it being unused.

In my house every single room has a switch at "normal" height that goes to a lamp outlet. Then somebody put separate switches at a ridiculous height above those switches to control ceiling lights and fans.
