How does one best trim a window when using metal siding?
2019年6月18日 · In a previous post on GBA titled “Metal siding – window head flashing detail”, J-trim on the top is said to be a bad idea. In that post, it seems like the best option proposed is using a double angle trim or a drip cap trim at the window header. Can anyone show me pictures of how that works and ties into the side trims?

I already plan to have the flashing *for the window* project 1/4" past the window... so here, I'm asking how far the flashing *for the trim* should project. I edited the question to make that clearer. RE: #3: I'm not quite following. Let's say Window #1's cap flashing has 1/2" H end dams.

Average winter temp is 11F (4 months). 11F is not that cold, but the temps regularly drop below 32F throughout the year, including shoulder season, which puts us in CZ 6b/7 (8600 HDD (65F) in warm years, 9200 HDD (65F) in cold years).

2022年6月27日 · Others think stopping water intrusion should come first, and caulk around the window frame. If you are caulking, leave a suitable gap (3/16"). If you aren't, go tight. You don't have to worry about trim nails penetrating your flanges, but even though it's quite thin, the flange will cause your trim to lay at an angle.

2019年7月28日 · Some architects seem to spec it and some builders included it in their window flashing details, other don't. When I have used it, I have not integrated it with the WRB. I've run the WRB down below the trim, and installed the metal flashing simple as protection from water getting in between the top of the trim and the bottom of the siding.
