2020年10月12日 · Hi All - I'm new here and to woodstoves in general. I just picked up a small potbelly stove today for occasional heating of a small, uninsulated workshop. It was sold to me as a Montgomery Ward 68 wood / coal stove. I'm curious if this is actually a wood stove, or if it's designed to just burn coal, based on the dimensions.

Other than being rusty (which I'm taking care of), it's solid. There aren't any cracks or thin spots. I want to install it in my 14' x 10' cabin. The cabin isn't insulated or air sealed at all.

Many pot-belly stoves have a ring around the perimeter, that has many holes in them. On some they are chrome, but on most it seems to be cast as part of the main body.

2008年10月27日 · Lastly before you clean stove, think about using nut shell, or glass beads to clean. The cast iron is really "soft" and me media could cut through the crisp details of the stove and even pit the surface, depending on how rusty it may have gotten over the years. Latest thing is soda blasting, but you'd have to talk to others, I haven't tried it.
