A "Grade 1" bolt (no head marking), which is the softest, weakest, cheapest bolt you can buy, has a minimum tensile of 60,000 psi, giving the cheap Grade 1 3/8-16 bolt a tensile strength of 4,650 pounds.

Even when dyno operators are trying to milk out the last additional power on an engine I haven't see coolant temps below 160°. I don't kick on the run stand fan until the engine gets up to 160°, and free flowing water would probably keep the temps way too cool.

2022年8月29日 · The stand I'm using is a big heavy duty one (see below) and didn't have any issues with my SBC; however, these Pontiac engines are beasts. The two cast iron heads seem like they weigh more than my SBC fully assembled (not really, but they do weigh a ton ) My engine has been on the stand for nearly 6 months and just now going to be re-assembling.

If you're really concerned about the mains, you should probably drop the pan to check them. Many 2-bolt main caps had provisions for 4-bolt attachments.

2019年2月1日 · After going through the Pontiac casting # book, 9799914 is a 1970 casting. I see a couple RAIII engines in Firebird and GTO with that casting # and 4 bolt main caps. Those are only in California engines which this engine is. ( Z code) I see lots of Grand Prix’s, Tempest, and Catalina’s with that casting # and 2bolt mains.
