6 天之前 · The Cherokee are a North American people of Iroquoian lineage who constituted one of the largest politically integrated tribes at the time of European colonization. They controlled parts of present-day Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and the western parts of what are now North Carolina and South Carolina.

The UKB are mostly descendants of "Old Settlers", also called Western Cherokee: those who migrated from the Southeast to Arkansas and Oklahoma in about 1817, prior to Indian removal. They are related to the Cherokee who were later forcibly relocated there in the 1830s under the Indian Removal Act.
