2001年10月26日 · You can change or modify the platen and run a 2" wide belt if you want. Even a 6X48 can work with a little modification. Make friends in the knife making community. many of us may have an old unit we outgrew or that needs fixing. These may be cheap or free. When making a shop visit, taking a six-pack of their favorite beer doesn't hurt.

2012年11月7日 · I use a 1725 RPM motor with a 1.5" pulley going to a 2, 3 and 4" pulley on the belt sander. It was a wet/dry 3x21 IIRC that I added an arm to so I can run small wheels on it, kinda like the Jiffy Conversion for 4x36 sanders. I can use belts between 1 and 2" wide and 30-36" long, so I will often just split a 4x36 belt.

2009年7月13日 · The belt isn't as tight as it could be and I think if you want a real crisp corner on the bevel it's not going to happen, at least on my 4x36. So I wouldn't say the 4x36 is useless at all, but it's got some limitations. I wish I had bought a 2x42. The 4x36 was a gift and the 1x30 I bought before I got into knife making. Some day...

2020年8月8日 · Trying to run a 400 or 600 grit belt at full speed is asking for issues. You slow them down, and they cut better. Another thing to try is a soft platen, like leather or rock hard felt attached to a metal platen. That smooths out the belt splice/bump, but need to be replaced fairly frequently as they wear and not remain flat as long.
