The developers enabled the ability to have it check for auto updates.when checking for updates, the application sends basic computer specs to check the versioning of the application and what release was supported. Audacity is introducing a (much-requested) feature which allows for automatic updates. This feature will require your IP address and info about your OS and CPU to be sent to Audacity.

2023年1月15日 · In all honesty as audacity user since 2005 there really isnt a replacement for the program. There are plenty of audio editors yet none are multi-track audio editors. DAWs like Ardour, which isn't free for non Linux users, have a steep learning curve for simple things. In the end, it is what it is. Im still on 3.0 and no plans to upgrade anytime ...

2024年4月21日 · Only thing is, none of that applies to me. I use the stock compressor in Audacity, along with the Noise Reduction. A free plug in from Melda for eq, another plugin for a de-esser and de-mouth click and I’m done. I know everybody’s use case is different but a lot of the time Audacity gets treated like it’s a tool for amateurs.

So it's not the official Audacity team, I believe. It's definitely a scam; Audacity has only ever been free. I haven't paid for the premium version, my version is totally free, and is exactly like the official Audacity, but there is this paid version, which has some other stuff, like burning CD's, etc.
