May 17, 2006 · For not a whole lot more, looks like you can get a pretty decent machine out of that 3102 unit. If you were looking at three in one i'd say smithy hands down, but for a milling machine - well Grizzly doesn't look too bad. If it were me, and i could make another big purchase, it'd be a full size lathe over the milling machine.

I dont think all similar looking Chinese machine tools are made in the same factories, maybe the castings come from the one foundry and the heavy machining might be done in one shop too but I strongly suspect the worst or of the worst are the products of small shops assembling from kits of parts sourced from the rejects of the bigger shops.

First off, there seems to be some confusion as to the power requirements, the specifications list it as 230V single-phase machine, but if you look at the manual that can be viewed online, it's referred to as a 110V machine.
Lubricating a mill spindle? Oil? Grease? Seals?

This mill is an almost direct copy of an old Clausing variable-speed drill press head, and I suspect they copied the quill with only minor changes as well- meaning I don't think they copied a proper milling machine style spindle bearing arrangement and it's attendant oiling needs.

Hi Jim. It might be worth going down to Brothers Machinery in North Andover and seeing what they have for used milling machines. Ron has done pretty well from them. If you go to Cabin Fever, a detour to the Grizzly Showroom would let you actually see the Grizzly machines. I went to the showroom this past August, just to see it.
