Apr 23, 2013 · Seems to be a lot of contradicting info about whether or not this is true. Would be nice to hear a definitive explanation from someone that actually knows. Ford's service manual does say to disconnect the battery for just about anything performance related. Don't know if that's for safety or for resetting the PCM.

Nov 16, 2014 · I know the ECM has to be programmed to work with the truck but I have had several people tell me that the Instrument Cluster also needs to be programmed. It has something to do with the PATS technology and marries the keys, the Instrument Cluster and the ECM together so they can communicate with one another.

Jan 26, 2004 · The WDS will soon be scrapped, due to Ford and other manufaturers going to laptops and PDAs. All the laptops and PDAs will be able to read from 1996 and on. The WDS and NGS will not read anything passed 2005. It will not even communicate with the PCM/ECM. Our shop will be switching over to laptops and PDAs as soon as local Ford dealerships do.
