2005年4月13日 · Wondering what suggestions the pros might have for basement ceilings. I would like to avoid a true drop ceiling because of the loss in headroom, but I don't necessarily want to just put up drywall because of the sound transmission - the basement will be rented out, so the more isolated, acoustically, I can make the upstairs and downstairs, the better.

2006年2月26日 · Pulling a circuit for a new hot tub, or a line for a new gas log, or cabling for a home theater system becomes much more expensive, especially if there are no other alternate routes to go than through the ceiling. Paul is right, drywall does look better, but there are many nice looking drop ceiling tile patterns.

2020年8月10日 · add blocking, double joists, etc prior to drywall. some well placed conduit, may not be code required, can make running electrical easier. i have seen fire rated assemblies that required drywall against framing then other framing was just set on top of the drywall and anchored to blocking, doublers etc...

2016年6月2日 · The second is in some fire rated assemblies, with the same basic goal. Keeping the air from moving bay to bay helps to keep the fire from spreading bay to bay (or wall to ceiling, etc). The third is purely to stiffen walls framed on the flat. The more the drywall can be made to act like an integrated part of the framing, the stiffer the wall is.

Basement fires (heck, any fire) get so hot because of modern day building materials, everything in a house is fuel and toxic. Breathing in Romex sheathing fumes is like instant cancer.

2016年2月27日 · FWIW, I've hung a room , verified I had no "ticks" wiping my knife over all the screw heads. Then came back a few days later for finishing. Ticks all over the walls and ceiling. Everything needed hand tightening. Using glue, it's even worse. Water based tends to shrink more than solvent based, so it's pretty easy to get into trouble.

I haven't secured a wall to a ceiling grid before so I just thought I'd throw this out there to see if I might get a couple tips. I plan on just securing my ceiling track to the T-grid, one self tapping screw on each side of the T.

2012年4月12日 · Apparently this isnt an issue everywhere, but I was just curious what others are doing. It becomes a much larger cost, when drywalling the basement ceiling, now we have to prepare for essentially finishing the basement by getting wiring, HVAC, plumbing etc all run in chases and through the floor frame for future use.

2011年2月28日 · If the basement was somewhat wet I would consider a cement board base instead of running drywall at the floor. I have a mostly insulated basement in my 100 year ol house and it has; 1) Dropped the heating cost of the house 2) kept the basement cooler in the summer 3) reduced the amount of humidity condensing in the basement in the summer
