2003年7月17日 · He says that 12' sheets are less work in the long run for the tapers. Ten years ago it was difficult to get 54" width sheets but now everyone stocks them in my neck of the woods. Hanging drywall vertical is an amateur method and no self respecting rocker would do it unless the wall was less than 54" wide. The objective is always less seams.

2003年8月1日 · iF YOU PUT THE NAIL 1/4" FROM THE EDGE, the wood will splinter. Same thing happens to sheetrock! Do this excperiment yourself! Get a piece of sheetrock, put a screw on the edge of the board and then pull the rock - wow, look how easy it comes out. Put a screw 3/8" from the edge of the rock and then pull it - much harder isn't it.

2008年4月24日 · I am confused why would a 4X12 sheet cause a tapered end at floor level or be any different than a 4X8 sheet. You use a 4x10 if the wall is between 8' and 10' long and 4X12 sheet if the wall is between 10' and 12' long and a 4x16 if the wall is between 12' and 16' long , not sure what you use if the wall is longer that 16'

What I’ve seen, has been done with 2x4 sheets of rock lath, brown coated, then finish coated. Outlets etc. are cut out like sheetrock. “Anything that makes it easier for the plastere”?

2006年8月4日 · While taping corners it takes 2 seconds to check such things with a 12" knife. On the final walk through I'll simply use a 12" knife to show how far out of whack things are. All we ask is for all joints and corners to not allow more than a smooth 1/16" gap over a 12" knife. For all but the worst lighting this will pass 99% of our clients.

The way to avoid the extra seam is to use 54-in.-wide drywall panels, which were introduced in the early 1990s for use on 9-ft.-high ceilings. Fifty-four-in. drywall comes in regular 1/2-in. and 5/8-in. fire-resistant panels. Sheets are readily available in 12-ft. lengths, but lengths anywhere from 8 ft. to 16 ft. long can be ordered.
