Dec 17, 2007 · Why not just use sandable white primer from the start? I work in 1/43, and like to keep my paint coats just thick enough to fully cover what's underneath, with no excess. That way I get sharper panel lines and details. But for red and light-colored cars I've been using grey primer, then white, then two or three color coats.

Aug 16, 2004 · As Joel says, a "primer" under Tamiya acrylics is good for showing imperfections and filling small scratches. Also, you may need to lay down an undercoat of white or gray to go with the top coat you plan to use (e.g. white under red). I use Tamiya XF-2 flat white or XF-19 sky grey for these purposes.

Sep 20, 2015 · As the Tamiya fine white primer is a "lacquer" but not a true lacquer as in the ones of the 60's-80's where there was an incredible number of layers "coats" applied to a vehicles bodywork for a complete paint job and the the color layers - sometimes 30+ - would be "wet" sanded and then polished with various grit compounds by buffing wheel ...

Aug 15, 2005 · This includes photo etched parts in brass, stainless and nickel. White metal such as in many 1/43 kits and parts like Tamiya gas tanks provided in the special addition FW24 kit. For die cast cars you would want to use automotive primer. For metals that are smooth as described above thi Mr Metal primer or Tamiya clear primer are better.

Dec 6, 2001 · No, always spray over the primer with a colour, i.e Ford Diamond white for a crisp white, Peugeot Alpine white for a bluey white, or Toyota White for a creamy white! White Primer is almost a piercing white, therefore not realistic at all! Then you can put the decals over the white paint, and then the lacquer over the decals.

Is it possible to sand the primer coat (tamiya primer, or duplicolor grey auto primer) TOO much? i.e., sanding to a very smooth surface - say, 3200 grit sandpaper - can this negatively affect paint topcoats adhesion?

Next clear coat before decals, decal application and final clear coat. Next detail painting and then off to assembly. That's the plan anyway.
