Everyone knowing who sephiroth is by now isn't a reasonable excuse to absolutely butcher the narrative pacing to shoehorn him in from the start.

He barely knows who Cloud is outside of the fact he's a useful tool due to the Jenova cells rendering him susceptible to control.
