For my set-up, the dealer I bought Sanus Natural Foundations speaker stands from recommended 36" stands, as opposed to 30" stands from the same product line.

Jul 24, 2002 · This is why I prefer the rear speakers to be at the same level as the fronts. Most speaker stands are designed for the front-speakers. This puts the tweeters at roughly ear-height. I doubt you will find 6 foot stands. Usually, your speakers have brackets that can be used to mount the speakers up on the wall.

Nov 19, 2002 · The rear surrounds will be placed behind my twin sofas in the corners of the room, the sofabacks are approx 32" high. I was going to go with a 30" stand, which would place the top of the speaker at 43.7" high. But I was reading on the Dolby Website that rear surrounds (direct radiating and/or dipoles) should be a few feet higher than ear level.

Jul 24, 2002 · Hollow stands allow you to fill the stand with sand or lead shot (more weight & mass). BlueTak is a good way of ensuring that the speaker doesn't slip around on the stand. I would be concerned about the wood resonating (esp. if the stand is hollow and not filled). You should be able to find some steel stands that can be filled for ~$75.
