2006年4月4日 · I stuck the stretcher in it and about 2 weeks later, it fits my 7 1/4 noggin nicely. I did use the trick of periodically moistening the sweatband before re-tightening the stretcher to take the hat larger. I have no fear now of assuming I can stretch any honest 7 1/8 to fit me at 7 1/4.

Theoretically, there is a limit to the shrinkage of various materials, but consistency is not to be found. Some people swear by a hat jack placed inside the hat during off seasons. 2008年12月28日 · Fall came along and it was put away when the felt hats came out. The next Spring the straw was again too tight. This time I steamed the crap out of it and used a Hat-Jack. I only needed, maybe, one hat size. It worked great, though as I only wear it down at the farm in Virginia, I leave a Hat-Jack in it. Straw will stretch - if done carefully.

2011年2月7日 · Steaming by itself won't help. That just wets it again. You need also to reblock the hat (stretch it back to its original form.) The problem is that the cost of blocking at a hatter is possibly greater than the cost of a wool felt hat. In your shoes I would try to reblock it on something like a pot and then recrease it.
