CD45 is a type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein, containing a single transmembrane domain. Its cytoplasmic portion consists of tandem protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTPase) domains and a C-terminal tail of ≈ 80 amino acids. Only the membrane proximal PTPase domain is enzymatically active, but both domains are required for function in cells.
