Old School, but the method does work. You should also note that shingles today are NOT waterproof. Just water resistant. I've seen them leak in the center of a roof on 12/12 pitch.

Fasten the step shingle to the roof AND to the wall. Then tape the top edge of the step shingles to the zip system sheathing. I am not a big fan of zip system.
