I never preheat and very seldom have any cracking problems, only when the cast is extremely brittle to begin with, like exhaust manifolds and other castings that loose some of the normal cast properties.

Solutions of plain old lye, liquid potassium or sodium hydroxide will clean up oily deposits like nobodies business. Once the oily deposits are gone you can use an acid solution to take care of leftovers.

It wasn't long ago that you had to do valve jobs on many engines before 100,000 miles, early engines 10-20,000 was expected life. Now we hardly ever see a burnt valve.

2013年5月18日 · I have repaired plenty of cast iron parts including cracks using an oxy acetylene welding torch and silver solder rods dipped into EasyFlo flux powder and I have always had good results with it, the flux cleans the dirt and oxides off the surface of the heated area and the solder flows in easily and makes a strong durable repair.

They are useable, but the question is; Can cast iron that is slightly warped be heated and carefully bent back? Have never tried that and wondered if I should try that, or just leave well enough alone.

I followed the directions and painted in low humidity and about 60 degrees. I primed several coats of primer and about 2-3 coats of green within an hour.
