2015年2月20日 · How big? We took down a 20" tree a couple years ago and cut it into slabs. We're still waiting for it dry. I just turned a couple small pieces and it was pretty nice. It does seem a little light for firewood. You might check with any woodworkers in your area. I realize it's not American chestnut but the grain is similar.

2007年11月2日 · I will be cutting down a horse chestnut tree. I am wondering if anyone has ever used horse chestnut in a wood stove in their home. I don't need hot burning wood as the frontroom is small where i have the stove - but I am worried about creosote and other problems associated with burning this wood. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks

2013年9月18日 · I was out on a walk in a park a couple weeks back and happened upon a bunch of very old American chestnut trees. Rare to see them let alone very old ones but they do exist here and there. Bad news is what you have isn't American chestnut, not sure what it is but it isn't American chestnut IMO. American chestnut looks and burns much like beech.

Well as of today 6/27/22, I'm sitting at 17% MC on average measuring 3 freshly split pieces. I'm sure the relatively mild NC climate has helped with seasoning. I've burned a lot of white oak and post oak but not chestnut. Good thing it's ready because it's about 80% of my wood for this winter.

The SUNY college of environmental science and forestry is working on the genetic engineering to get the blight resistance from the chinese chestnut into the american chestnut. To maintain biologic diversity they are looking for diverse locations with existing trees to start planting the new trees.

Here in Michigan at least, it takes two full years to season thin splits, three years to season normal size splits and small (3"-4") rounds, four years to season large splits and medium (5"-6") rounds, and 5 years to season huge splits and 6"+ rounds.

2019年12月13日 · I have occasionally found some dead ones big enough for firewood, mostly for campfires. I know back in the day, the wood was used for everything, easily worked and very durable/rot resistant. My hunting cabin built in 1935 is made from chestnut logs, all still sound except for one where water and dirt have splashed on it the last 80 years.
