A second round of Trump tariffs once he takes office on Jan. 20 is the latest addition to a laundry list of factors prompting a surge in US imports.

The government has pledged a joint "strike force" and 24/7 aerial surveillance, as well as a host of other measures.

As the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian imports persists, U.S. president-elect Donald Trump insists Canada should be cracking down on fentanyl making its way across the border.

Trump said that on his first day in office, he would place 25 percent tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican goods. The two countries are the leading sources of U.S. oil imports.
