DJI and Autel Robotics have one year to convince skeptical national security agencies that their equipment doesn't pose a threat to the U.S.

The one-month ban covers 22 communities in the Garden State. Frequent drone sightings in recent weeks have unsettled residents.

The government may use "deadly force" against the drones if they pose an "imminent security threat," the FAA said in a Notice to Airmen.

After weeks of concerns over drones hovering over New Jersey communities, the Federal Aviation Administration has stepped in to stop the flight of unmanned aircraft by banning the flying machines over certain locations.

"This action is purely precautionary; there are no threat to these sites," New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday it was temporarily barring drone flights over dozens of critical infrastructure sites in New Jersey and New York.
