The University of North Carolina’s board of trustees approved the terms of Belichick’s employment during a closed session Thursday — UNC announced Wednesday that Belichick would have a five-year contract.

Bill Belichick said he had conversations with Julius Peppers and Lawrence Taylor, a pair of Pro Football Hall of Famers and former Tar Heels, in the lead up to the hiring.
