We got on from Silverton. We exited through Ouray. I would suggest NOT doing the road from Ouray to the loop unless you have a short wheelbase 4x4 with a lift. The rest can be …
We got on from Silverton. We exited through Ouray. I would suggest NOT doing the road from Ouray to the loop unless you have a short wheelbase 4x4 with a lift. The rest can be done in pretty much any stock 4x4 but a long wheelbase truck will be harder.

Thank you so much for the information. We did stay at a great AirBNB in Lake City and were able to drive the ATV on the main highway from the home to the loop, which makes life sooo much easier. It is recommended to go clockwise, because of engineer's pass, so that's what we did. We left the house at 0700 and with all the stops, it took us a full 8.5 hours to do 65 miles (from AirBNB to AirBNB). We went the very last weekend in September, so no traffic and no snow on the roads and no risk of avalanche, so no road closures. What an experience!!!!
