Shelby is an unincorporated community in Austin County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 175 in 2000. It is located within the Texas German belt region, a region stretching from Sealy in the east to Fredericksburg in the west, settled by German emigrants.

2014年1月29日 · Shelby is at the junction of Farm roads 389 and 1457, twenty-four miles northwest of Bellville in extreme northwestern Austin County. It was settled in the early 1840s and was named for David Shelby, reportedly the first settler in the area.
Shelby was made postmaster in 1846 when Texas became a state, and gradually the place began being called Shelby as the name “Roedersmuehle” faded out of existence. Germans at Shelby brought their cultural practices with them including a “Gesangverein” (German singing society) organized in 1852, then reorganized in 1853.

This territory was a path for many of the early migrants into Texas from the United States, many of whom settled here temporarily before proceeding westward.
The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas are the docents of the Historic 1885 Shelby County Courthouse built by J. J. E. Gibson. The courthouse is open for tours Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm until 4:30pm .
