Visitors are very welcome and we would encourage you to include your relatives or friends in supporting you whilst you are in hospital. We have a policy of person centred visiting which means we will ask you on admission who can visit you and if there are any restrictions on when you would want to see friends and family.
Accident and Emergency – NHS Shetland
The Accident and Emergency department is situated near the main entrance of the Gilbert Bain Hospital in the town of Lerwick. It is the only general hospital serving the population of Shetland. It deals with all major/minor trauma and illness from within Shetland and from surrounding waters.
Medical Imaging – NHS Shetland
The Medical Imaging Department is located off the main corridor of the Gilbert Bain Hospital between the Accident and Emergency and Outpatient Departments. It consists of two general x-ray rooms , one ultrasound room, CT Suite and the Helyer MRI Suite. The Department is open 9:00am - 17:00pm Monday to Friday.

Dental Practices – NHS Shetland
The Public Dental Service has dental clinics in Lerwick (Montfield Dental Clinic), Brae, Whalsay, and Mid Yell, in addition to services at Gilbert Bain Hospital (GBH) . The GBH Dental Suite is located on the ground floor, with its own Reception Desk in the Out-patients Department.
